I loved the original series, and I'm sure I'll enjoy this newly revamp vision.

that would sure lead to interesting voting results =)

I suspect it will make no difference. /cynic

Thanks for bringing this old tradition back, though in a more modern form. It will be interesting to see how this one plays out, for sure! Now to find some spare time to actually participate...

@tlr: Can remember to having seen this issue with several vice 2.3 versions. But its fixed in the lastest build (r27318). Good job! Love x64sc to hunt grey dots.

Nice initiative!

x64sc r27318 seems to run the demo just fine. Maybe it is this regression (now fixed) that bites you?
Running bleeding edge nightly builds can never be 100% safe... ;)

EDIT: @Axis: if there is cycle stealing problems in emulation, please post a bug in the bug tracker.

If you wanna be blown away by a huge amount of new demos you haven't seen before, go to a party. This is something different, and after all the music/gfx compos on CSDB I welcome that there's something for coders as well.

jackasser: that is why I posted this... Maybe one could have a special screen-shot on the parts so that the ones that will not have a look before the demo is released can just not see it stright in the shoot if clicking a new release here on csdb?

It is fantastic that this is done Yazoo, just point out the fact that all parts will then be old when released. But it sure is a fun championship to get into the demo.

It is not ment to be so negative because what you do is so possetive, it simply could be even greater is my point. No matter what it will be super-insane-great!

I second that. It ruins the wow factor.

so many complains :)

i understand why some ppl dont like it as it is, but plz read some lines below what i have already written about the reasons for doing it this way. maybe (if we or someone else organizes another doty next year or so) we or someone else can do it in another way.

maybe we were all wrong with this, but rules are not negotiable anymore anyways, as the c64 invitation, youtube videos and so on - are wide spread containing the current rules / info.

dont like? dont compete. what else can i say

...do something - and you can do something wrong... do nothing, and you cannot fail ;-)

i agree with tao - i find seeing other peoples entries before the compo actually happens really boring. and i think voting while entries are still being added is completely wrong for a compo too (you get an advantage for releasing early. coding killer part until last minute is a silly idea in this setup)

so since i couldnt care less about the voting, my entry wont be added until a few minutes before deadline.

@Yogibear: i didn't know you were in ATG , they were very cool group back then !

Yes ATG organized it once in 1990. (I was in ATG). Nice to see it's coming back! Neat invitation!

@grasstust: The difference is, that we don't earn a lot of money with the public votes like they do in TV. ;) Maybe perff might invent a pay-per-vote system which sends money to the CSDb fund.
/edit: Crack Intro Music Compo had 2532 votes overall at deadline. Maybe 5 cents per vote... ;)

Great initiative! I think what the stand-alone compos have proven is that actually showing the entries as they appear generates a certain flair, a certain "what? I'm gonna be in this one too, damn it!", urging everyone to draw as more and more entries are released. And ofcourse, as tv has proven, getting the audience involved in the voting makes everything much more interesting... :)

So cool to bring this back. I love your effort to do this. But I would rather get a new pack of gum than a pack of gum with already chewed pieces in the pack.

But again, it is so cool that you do this... Maybe one could have a special screen-shot on the parts so that the ones that will not have a look before the demo is released can just not see it stright in the shoot if clicking a new release here on csdb?

In the past we sent part to some germans and later on it when released and one did not know where in the demo your part came and if it were there almost... it was really cool.

This is a great initiative!
I agree with Tao though. I think it would be cooler, for the rest of us, if you picked out the entries. Then it will be a surprise with all kinds of wonderfull & strange parts for the rest of us. This is a great idea nevertheless. Thanks! :)

Tao: axis and me thought about that. but making it a csdb compo as didi made it with the 3-col logo compo / sid compo seemed to be the better way. because this way the compo generates much more attention, and hopefully attracts more ppl to compete / create something. also the result may be more entries, because ppl hopefully try to beat eachother. thats basically why we have modified the old doty concept - which was invite only - to this kind of competition.
the risk with the old concept, to end with a 2-part doty would be much bigger i think. but i may be wrong

where is light - there will be a shadow.

Wouldn't it be a lot more fun to have the entries submitted directly to the organisers and have them pick out the entries? Otherwise everyone will already have seen all the entries on CSDb, so the DotY-demo itself will just be a "Seen that..." thing that no one really cares about.

@Axis: I tested code on a real C64 ("old" pal, ceramic vic chip) and works like a charm. Problems only with X64SC (x64sc 2.4.2 (GTK+ AMD64/x86_64 Linux GCC-4.6.0))

@Flavio: Had no problems testing this on VICE 2.3/x64sc windows binary. But there can always be problems on the different x64sc versions. The timings for stretched/crunched sprites seem to be wrong in x64sc (The sprites steal too much cycles in the last line). We suffered from the same problem with the cl 13 plasma.
And just discovered a bug on real hardware. Lazy me didnt test the final version there. *grrr*

I dont code advanced demos, but i have an offer anyway:

I would like to offer my services as a composer for a demo in this compo.

If you need an experienced composer, write to me! PM here on CSDB.

heh... ok, then the creditz regarding the sprites in this invitation are half-wrong (i made the stars). axis and me thought the spriteset was done by me because we used them sprites alot back in the days :D sry for that

edit: am i blind, or why is it not an option to add creditz for sprites? :)

Cool! :) Sprite-origano from last part in Rutig Banan (or extremely similar?!), which we also used in the first part in Time Machine (party version). My bro told me who pixeled them but I've forgotten the name now. Will ask again!

Nice initiative!

Nice DYSP, must be using line crunch there.. and thus multiplexing at least one sprite. I'm quite in to it you see ;).

So, do demos already released in 2013 count? Or does a pimp like me get into the compo anyway, just like CensorDesign always get into the parties even tough they are sold out ;)

Trash: right... i have modified that "against the law" line as it was pretty unclear (ok, i can obviously only change things on the website, and not in the c64 invitation anymore) ;D

By "not breaking any laws" do you mean german law or <input country of your choice> law?
