Strider/WEC

Created 1993:
FLI Graph Editor V1.1 /Black Mail [1989]

Updated some years later:
FLI Profi V1.0/Crest [1993]

Released October 4th 2009

Strider/WEC based on a still from the arcade game Strider/Capcom [1989]

1989 when Amusement Arcades offered the kind of gaming experiences not available in the home, Strider was cutting edge. Featuring jaw dropping visuals, and a lead character ‘Strider Hiryu’ who offered more moves than was previously possible in any other game. Of all the memorable moments to occur during Strider, the scene featuring a huge metal ape must go down in history as an all time memorable moment.

Strider/US Gold [1990]
Thumbs up to US Gold for making an effort. It was surprising to see the effort lavished on lead character ‘Strider Hiryu’.
Thumbs down to the small playing area, and not so great metal ape. I’m sure the ape could have looked better. The metal ape that appears in the US Gold C64 conversion appears to be made up of characters, with 6 sprites (3 Hires, 3 Multi Colour) used to created the arm(s). Why they used only 2 colours remains a mystery.

Strider Mock Up/WEC Based similar limitations as the US Gold conversion, featuring a slightly larger player area.
Strider C64 could have looked better. This metal ape doesn’t use sprites ;)
