in the last days i sorted out most of the user filled tapes i got when i bought some commodore stuff. many of them read good, others are bad and some of the tapes went directly into the bin...
i dumped with dc2n 4lc - and exported with tapex from dmp to t64. maybe sometimes tap would be better? i dont know.
you can play around, dmp file is included. dont expect something new. i only dumped each side with 1 run. if 2nd side is missing - than it was empty and i stopped to save my time.

Capture of some tapes I bought earlier this month.
Added 9 releases to CSDB from them (which is not much for 30-40 tapes). Still, get 'em up there :).

Very nice structure and names on the dumped tapes!
I wish more would keep it like that.
I've done this since I got serious with tape preservation.
It's so much easier to go back, redump a tape, if something is needed. When you've got them in such a nice structure :)
01_Maxell_UDI46_Band_1_A.dmp
01_Maxell_UDI46_Band_1_B.dmp
02_TDK_AD90_Band_2_A.dmp
02_TDK_AD90_Band_2_B.dmp
02_TDK_AD90_Band_2_A_P1.dmp
02_TDK_AD90_Band_2_B_REV1.dmp
The first number is the number written on the tape or folder, in a particular serie.
The second is the brand name and minutes.
The third is the name on the tape.
The fourth is side A/B.
Then I have added some prefix:
P= Part (can be a different writings on the same tape. ALAS: past data/different aligned signals:
REV= Revisions. Like if the tape has been re-read with a different setting.
I also store the dumps files in different directories, to keep track of the batches/clamps I do. To make it more easy to go back and seek for things needed.
Maybe we should try set this as a standard? :) |
